The culmination of each FIRST Robotics Competition season involves district and regional events, where qualifying teams compete for awards and a chance to participate in the FIRST Championship. These events provide students with a remarkable experience, as they celebrate their hard work, make new friends, and are exposed to ideas and values that will enrich their lives for years to come. Additionally, every participant is eligible to apply for college scholarships.

“The FGC games are not only a competition but also to empower and build collaboration and friendship among young STEM-interested minds in more than 150 countries across the globe. Being part of this network and having access to this rich resource is important for Suriname if we also want to contribute with the talent we have and enable our young people to make use of this global platform to emerge as STEM and Innovation future leaders”

Ashna Mahepal (CEO YHS)

The team’s dedication and hard work to build partnerships and inspire students to engage in science and technology was recognized at the FIRST Regional Competition held in March 2023. They were awarded the prestigious Rookie All-Star Award and qualified for the World Championship game. You can read all about their journey so far on their website too.

With only a short time to prepare, the team is now seeking additional support to fund their journey to the World Championship game, where they will join about 600 teams from around the world competing in four categories of championships.

Suriname will participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition category.

During these events, students have the opportunity to collaborate and share ideas, compete with, repair, and upgrade their robots, engage with cutting-edge technology, creatively solve problems, and most importantly, have fun.

As they participate in these events, students gain a sense of accomplishment and confidence, which will benefit them both in their academic and personal lives!
